Eva's Cottage, Gardenstown

Home

Just an hour north of Aberdeen, Eva's Cottage could be at the very edge of the world.

This is Gardenstown on the Banffshire coast of North East Scotland.

Eva's Cottage is so close to the sea that, when the waves are angry, the spray kisses the windows.

But don't worry. You'll be nice and warm beside the open fire.

Gardenstown is the perfect place to relax. You can't even get a mobile phone signal unless you climb to the top of the cliffs and it's ten miles to the nearest Tesco.

Our family connection with the village goes back 250 years, to when the cottage was first built.

Then it was home to hard-working fishermen, now it's a comfortable Highland retreat, with modern accommodation for up to five people.

You can still see plenty of local fishing boats in the harbour and watch them coming in with a daily catch of crab and lobster.

If you fancy having a go you can try your luck with a line dangled off the pier (there are Moray eels down there) or watch the local bird life, keep an eye open for dolphins as they pass through the bay, sink a pint in the 18th century Garden Arms or stroll along the coastal path to the next door village of Crovie.
